This has been a WEEK when it comes to social media. I don’t know anyone who is happy. But I do know quite a few people who keep reading as many novels as possible to escape it.
With the ups and (mostly) downs of the week, I kind of feel like I have whiplash. But I keep on plugging away in the hopes that the little bit that I can do will make a difference. I’m pretty sure that’s all we can do, right? It’s never enough, but we have to forget about that so we can keep trudging forward. The biggest progress doesn’t happen in bounds and leaps. It happens with our tiny, consistent steps. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Reading Social Media News
It’s been a big week for social media, and it’s safe to say social media managers are TIRED. Exactly why they’re tired has more to do with the type of social media they work with. But regardless, TIRED. Let’s look at a couple of reasons.
The first is everything that happened with TikTok. So how did we get here and what will happen next? Social Media Today gives a good breakdown, including a quick look at what is next for the app.
I don’t know if it’s because TikTok was in the news so much, but Meta decided to throw a buttload of changes at us. There are three minute Reels, and after telling us for so long that short Reels do better, they’re telling us they are going to prioritize the longer videos. There are significant changes to our profiles and more. No one has published a great round up of it all, so I’m just linking to Social Media Today’s Instagram page since Instagram had a majority of the changes.
Reading Books, Books and More Books
Past
Okay, I’m gonna need every to read Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. I just enjoyed it that much. It constantly kept me engaged despite the fact that I had no idea where it was going. The end was just so rewarding and made my heart so happy. This book was a breath of fresh air. It didn’t challenge me all that much, but still remained interesting. I didn’t quite mourn leaving this world (it helped that I moved onto another good book), but I did very much enjoy the time I was able to spend in it. Score: A
Present
All of the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker suddenly took over my feed. It felt like A LOT of people were reading it. I tentatively requested it from the library. I’m not all that fond of many the books that seem popular, and I figured it would be forever before the book got to me. It was in my hands a few days later. I had mixed feelings about this, but I pushed them down and dove right in. We’ll see how I feel when I’m done, but right now, I’m in. It’s super readable, and I’m very attached to the characters. I don’t know where we’re going, but I’m on this ride. I’ll tell you next week if it was worth it.
What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
