This has been a week of migraines. I honestly have no idea how I got any reading done, but I did.
And to add to it all, my daughter decided to dunk my phone in the toilet. Do you know what will really put you in pain? Seeing your phone at the bottom of the toilet while your child is continually yelling, “UH OH!” For now, it seems fine. But this is definitely why I have backups for my backups. You just never know what’s going to happen next.
But anyway, let’s talk about what I have been reading this week:
Reading Social Media News
Lately, I’ve been thinking more and more about why we are moving so fast in marketing. It’s not always called for, despite what certain taglines say. Sometimes, a slower, more intentional path is the way forward. So I was happily surprised to see this article from Content Marketing Institute about speed versus agility. It’s definitely something we should all be thinking about.
The news about TikTok is happening fast and furiously right now. So obviously I don’t feel comfortable sharing an article that will be outdated within five minutes. Instead, let’s look at what we can do in the meantime. Thankfully, PR Daily has some ideas of what you should be doing in case TikTok is banned.
Reading Books, Books and More Books
Past
Funny enough, my friend and I read Orbital by Samantha Harvey at the same time without realizing it, and we came out of it with the exact same feelings. How can something written so beautifully be so boring? There was just nothing here. Like it was to the point that I was hoping everyone died just so there would be something. JUST ANYTHING. Instead, I got a number of characters that I kept forgetting or mixing up. Thank God this was a short book or else I’d be seriously grumpy about it. Score: C+ (only because of the writing)
Present
One of my friends did her best of 2024 books, and for whatever reason, I focused right in on Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. I didn’t even look at the rest of her list despite usually liking her picks. I just immediately ordered this one from the library. So far, it’s a strange but interesting book. I have no idea where we’re going or if we’ll revisit all of these characters I’m meeting as we’re going along. It’s honestly refreshing. I usually have a good idea of what’s going to happen, and it’s soothing that I don’t. So I’ll stick around on this ride. Hopefully it’s worth it.
What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
