What I Am Reading

What I Am Reading 10/25/24

It’s been a week and yet I’m still reading.

My daughter caught a stomach bug. You have not lived until your daughter projectile vomits all over her dinner and herself. Especially when this is only the third time in her life she has vomited and she definitely doesn’t remember the other two. Thankfully, we were able to get her right into the bath and then into bed soon after. She seems to be doing fine, so of course now I have to wait to see if I catch whatever that was. Good times.

And we are on the verge of Halloween, so we are doing ALL THE THINGS. I’m going to be so happy for October to be over. But then even more holiday fun is right around the corner… I’m sure I’ll be more excited about that once it’s time. Maybe.

Until then, let’s check out what I’m reading.

Reading Social Media News

“Why are so many marketing teams playing defense instead of playing to win?” This is a fantastic question in a great Content Marketing Institute article about how our tools shape our marketing and where we are with our tools right now. Spoiler alert: It’s not a good place.

It feels like Threads is trying to turn out more and more features to get it to the point where it can really be considered a channel that gets measurable results. In other words, it’s getting ready for prime time. Will it ever get there? I kinda hope so because I do enjoy the channel. But we shall see. This week, Meta released Threads mobile analytics and tested ways to switch from one profile to another. Both are music to a social media manager’s ears.

Reading Books, Books and More Books

Past

This was the second time I read Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane, and I picked it up because I knew it would fit like an old sweater. It’s an epic book that spans across decades. A story of generational trauma that starts taking the form of healing. The story felt so familiar to me the first time, and I sadly knew the reasons why I had felt the yearning to read it again. Raising a kid is tough. And I’m trying so hard not to pass on any trauma, but I know with some things that I just can’t help it. But this book was a slap in the face to try harder. I can’t count on my daughter healing if I don’t try to heal myself. Score: A+

Present

Now, if we really want to talk about books that feel like old sweaters, there is no better on than The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. Halloween just feels like a good time for a dark love story, even one I have read three times. Not reaching out for something new feels like a good brain break for me. And embracing books I have loved feels good for my soul. So I’m excited to dive into this story again and inhabit all of his lovely corners.

What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
