This week has been busy. Every plan I made was quickly discarded. We’ve all had those weeks, amirite?
Luckily, I still had a bit of time for some tasty schnacks.
WHAT I READ
For months, I’ve been staring at a book at the bookstore. I loved the cover. It was one of the covers that pulls you in from across the store. But then I would pick up the book, read that it was yet another multigenerational family saga and put it back down. I’ve been too disappointed by too many of them. However, I finally broke down and bought Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane and loved it for its insides as well. Unlike most of those family sagas, this is about two middle class families. They’re dealing with mental health, abuse, neglect and the consequences of one very bad night. I highly recommend.
WHAT I WATCHED
If you have followed me on social media for any amount of time, you’ll know that I have a serious addiction to Bravo shows. But one stands above the rest: Below Deck. To me, it’s the Shakespeare of our day. I actually mean that. Remember that Shakespeare was considered low brow. Below Deck may seem low brow to you, but to me, it’s perfect. Last Monday, its red-headed step child, Below Deck Med, finished up, and I found myself continuously falling in and out of love with Chef Ben as he finally popped back onto my screen again. This Monday, the OG shows up with Captain Lee and Kate. The turns of phrases, the weird drama, the entitled guests… I’m here for every juicy second.
WHAT I LISTENED TO
I had one of my weekly long drives, and yeah, I found myself playing the Polyphonic Spree over and over again like I did in my early 20s. My go-to repeat song is Suitcase Calling. One of those songs that’s just so well-put together. You don’t even feel its length because it’s just taking you up and down and all around. They put on a show with this song and it’s a good song.
WHAT I LEARNED
I decided that I want to make a Regency dress awhile ago. I thought I’d go from not being a sewer to making this amazing dress in no time. That was not the case. It turns out that I have a lot of steps to go. This week, I started learning hand embroidery. I’m actually really enjoying it, much more so than cross stitch. Right now, I’m just screwing around with it and making modern projects. Soon, I’ll switch over to researching the period and making a plan for the kind of embroidery I want on my dress so I can practice that. God, I’m a nerd.
A GREAT BLOG POST
This week, blog posts were… light. So am I going to share with you a great blog post? No, not really. I am sharing this one on tips for working with the LinkedIn algorithm. I laughed out loud while reading it. Why? Because it’s literally the same as working with every single social media algorithm. Be a person and engage, guys. And write some juicy blog posts for me to share.
