What I Am Reading

What I Am Reading 1/3/25

We are finally getting out of the holiday season and things are starting to get back to normal. And that means back to lots of reading!

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m excited for normal schedules. I’m excited for normal food and normal activities. No more stuffing all the magic I can into a short period of time. Just a whole lot of normal. Losing all of that pressure just feels good.

And with that said, let’s chat about what I am reading.

Reading Social Media News

Will they or won’t they? That seems to be what everyone is wondering about the TikTok ban. It’s now with the Supreme Court who will hear the last pleas on January 10. So we will know what’s going to happen very, very soon.

Threads has become one of my favorite networks lately. When I post my little stories, I always end up getting to talk to people who get it, and I don’t have to tune out too many negative comments. Right now, changes are coming fast and furious to keep up with increased demand. Check out the latest ones.

Reading Books, Books and More Books

Past

I always exit the year with books I have absolutely loved. So reading at the end of the year is more like putting on an old sweater than anything else. The first was Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy. This book has such a feral edge to it that I keep coming back to it anytime I feel wild or just want to feel something. Her writing takes you to this brutal, animalistic place, and I never knew how much I would want to re-visit that kind of place before I picked up one of her books. Now I’m impatiently waiting for her next book to come out this year. Score: A+

I have an annual tradition of reading The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern about this time every year. It’s difficult for most people to read, but that only makes it even more special to me. In the end, it’s a tribute to the stories and how the end is not to be feared. It makes me want to tell more stories and create. Very few books really do that at this level. I would probably read it more often if it was so much to get through. Instead, I allow myself this once a year journey and savor every second of it. Score: A+

Present

I didn’t know what to read next. My library holds are slower than usual, so I turned to my library. The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles just called to me. I’m surprised I’ve only read this book once despite my warm feelings for it. So now I’m settled in for my next round with it and excited for where it will take me this time. How lucky am I that I have so many books that feel like home to me?

What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
